Cherra Teachers’ Training Centre, Sohra is a co-educational teacher training institution run by Khasi Jaiñtia Presbyterian Assembly. It was established in the year 1867 with the objective of imparting teacher education to the in-service and pre-service student-teachers of the state in general and the district in particular.
The institution offers a 2 years Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed course)course prescribed by the Directorate Educational Research and Training (DERT) Government of Meghalaya and recognised by NCTE.

Mission: The institute upholds a believe and commitment to prepare student-teachers and to enrich their learning to cater to the needs of students in today’s world; So that they can mould the child’s character – intellectually, physically, socially, emotionally and spiritually.
Aim & Objectives:-
Objectives of the Workshop: The main objectives of the proposed Workshop are as follows:-
- To enable teachers under the Shella – Bholaganj Block of East Khasi Hills District to know the conceptual frames of the students in the subject and set questions as per the level they are in.
- To guide the teachers in evaluating the outcomes of their instructions and student in knowing where they stand on the ladder of learning.
- To guide teachers in diagnosing the strength and weakness of students.
- To guide teachers to focus more on higher objectives of learning such as understanding, application of knowledge rather than testing recall and recognition of facts in the questions papers set at the examination.
